Our Dachshund Breeding Program

We monitor our pregnant dachshund moms throughout their pregnancy. We have our adults on a specific prenatal vitamin just to help in the development of the puppies once they start breeding to help ensure we get healthy and high quality puppies. Their gestation period is 63 days. At day 32 we perform an ultrasound at our in house healthcare facility to confirm that they are pregnant. We then check them every other week or so to monitor they growth of the puppies. At day 60 we will switch the mother’s vitamin to one that helps with milk production. We always have the moms on video and audio so at the first sign of labor we are with them to help delivery the puppies. They are given the appropriate medications at the start of delivery and when the delivery is completed. Every puppy is assessed and monitored to make sure they are nursing and growing.
