Since humans eat a variety of foods one would think that dogs were safe eating the same foods. But there are several foods that dogs can’t eat. Grapes/raisins are very harmful to dogs causing kidney failure and even death. Another harmful substance for dogs is chocolate. The dark chocolate is more harmful than milk chocolate due to theobromine and they all contain caffeine. Signs of toxicity are vomiting, dehydration, and diarrhea with more serious signs of muscle tremors, internal bleeding, and seizures. Macadamia nuts can cause tremors, hyperthermia, vomiting, and depression even with small amounts ingested. Onions can cause a reduction in their red blood cells known as anemia, even if it in the powder form. Avoid any avocados due to persin which cause fluid build up in their lungs which shows signs of difficulty breathing, deprivation of oxygen, and even death. With any new food item that is deemed safe for dogs always start giving it to them slowly so you can monitor for any reactions. Like humans any dog can have adverse reactions to something that other dogs do not.
