So, when do puppies lose their baby teeth? It will vary from breed to breed and from dog to dog. But around 4 moths of age. The puppy starts out with 28 teeth but when they are being replaced with their adult teeth, they will have 42. Sometimes you will find their baby teeth but most of the time the puppy swallows them. The puppy will need several chew toys during this process. Find chews that you can bend, that are soft, and are not so hard the puppy can’t chew. You might notice that they will have double teeth. This is where the adult tooth didn’t push the baby tooth out all the way and this may require the veterinarian extracting the baby tooth. Be sure to start brushing your puppy’s teeth the day you bring your puppy home. This will insure that they are accustomed to having their teeth brushed and help the overall health of the dog. Be sure to use the toothpaste made for dogs and not human toothpaste. Toothpaste for dogs is made so that it can be swallowed since they don’t rinse like humans. The whole process of the puppy getting its adult teeth may take up to 8 months. Be patient with the puppy and reinforce the chews are what the puppies need to be chewing on and not the furniture.
